I have often shared on social media the list of supplements I take in the mornings and evenings, especially my desiccated organ supplements and liquid collagen. Desiccated organ supplements have piqued so much interest since it feels out of the norm for people to consume. However, desiccated organ supplements, especially beef liver, have been rising in popularity lately and I am going to break it all down.

The consumption of beef liver can be traced back to ancient times. Liver was and still is considered a valuable source of nutrients often consumed by early humans and their ancestors as a common food around the world.

Robust strength and exceptional health were central to our ancestor’s existence. We were once naturally strong and healthy  human beings, built for the most dangerous conditions. Our ancestors lived and thrived on nose-to-tail nutrition. Not a single part of the animal that they hunted would go to waste, which provided us with the raw nutrients we needed for health and happiness.

In modern times, liver consumption has dramatically decreased due to a combination of factors, including the mass production of food, taste preferences and cultural changes. While this may be true, liver and other beef organs contain such a high concentration of bioavailable vitamins that they should be consumed in some capacity, whether it is eating them as a meal or taking via encapsulated, desiccated form.

Desiccated liver (and other organs) is a dietary supplement made from dried liver (and other organs) that has been ground into a powder and encapsulated or compressed into tablets.

Robust strength and exceptional health were central to our ancestor’s existence. We were once naturally strong and healthy  human beings, built for the most dangerous conditions. Our ancestors lived and thrived on nose to tail nutrition.

The benefits of desiccated organ supplements is never ending, but the most important ones are listed below:

  1. 1. Rich in nutrients: Liver is a nutrient-dense food, containing high amounts of protein, vitamins A, D, E, K, B12, and folic acid, as well as minerals like iron, zinc, and copper. Desiccated liver retains these nutrients, making it a convenient way to add them to your diet.
  2. 2. Supports muscle growth: The high protein content in desiccated liver can help support muscle growth and repair, making it a popular supplement among athletes and bodybuilders.
  3. 3. Boosts energy and stamina: The B vitamins in desiccated liver help convert food into energy, and the iron it contains helps transport oxygen to the muscles, both of which can improve energy levels and stamina.
  4. 4. Supports immune function: The high levels of vitamins A and D in desiccated liver can support immune function, as these vitamins are important for maintaining healthy skin, eyes, and mucous membranes.
  5. 5. Helps support liver health: Although it may seem counterintuitive, consuming liver can actually help support the health of your own liver. This is because liver is rich in nutrients that support liver function, such as vitamin B12, folic acid, and choline.

Many of this is based on the ancestral wisdom that “like supports like,” where the traditional way of treating a person with a specific weakness/illness was to feed them the corresponding organ from a healthy animal. I can vouch from personal experience that I believe taking desiccated organs, cutting seed oils, and reverting to a more ancestral lifestyle helped me reverse PCOS in 4 months time. Check out this video I did with Ancestral Supplements (not sponsored).

It’s worth noting that the bioavailable nutrients from the organs are not compromised when in desiccated form. Additionally, while it does offer potential health benefits, it’s important to choose a high-quality supplement from a reputable source and to consult with a healthcare professional before adding any new supplement to your diet. Finally, if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking medication, it’s important to speak with your healthcare provider before taking desiccated liver or any other dietary supplement.

My personal favorite desiccated organ supplement companies that I trust are Ancestral Supplements, Heart & Soil Supplements, and Standard Process
